THE FBI-SOS PROGRAM
The Program
Each month fifth through eighth grade students across the country participate in the the FBI-SOS (Safe Online Surfing) Internet Challenge and compete for the FBI-SOS Trophy. Students begin by taking an online self-scoring Pre-Quiz to measure their knowledge of internet safety and then complete an online Scavenger Hunt where they learn important internet safety information. Students are then ready to take the Post-Quiz where they test what they have learned during the Scavenger Hunt.
After completing the FBI-SOS Internet Challenge, students will be able to:
School (Team) Score
Students receive 500 points for each correct answer and lose 1 point for each second taken to complete the quiz. The Team Score is calculated by adding a school's top 20 scores for the current month. Only the scores of students who have taken both the Pre and Post Quizzes in the same month will be included in the team score.
Program Months
The program will be administered in a rolling manner beginning in October and ending in May. Each month the program (and consequently the team scores) will start over giving large schools an opportunity to have all their students participate. New schools may register and begin at any time during the school year.
